From the recording Same Old Fire
“Same Old Fire” is about the struggle between longing and loss, the way old wounds and fears can haunt us. It captures the ache of losing something once so bright, yet still feeling its flames burning cold. It’s a raw, personal reflection on love, dreams, and the things we let slip away.
This song was originally intended to be a duet with Warrel Dane (Nevermore, Sanctuary), who was not only a friend and teacher but also a muse to me. His passing made it impossible to bring the song to life as planned, and his absence is deeply felt in every note. I tend to write from pain, and this is yet another song born from that place—an attempt to make sense of the emptiness and the fire that still burns.
Lyrics
There was a time when my mind was a peaceful place
But down the line, I have started a war
All that I hoped for, seems now a utopic phase,
Leaving me restless and craving for more
There was a time, when your star was aligned with mine
And all my horrors your heart could still hold
Such a world insane, the same old fire
Burning brightly, so why am I still cold?
It's useless to stand there when all has been said and done
It's easy to lie when your heart has grown cold
What happens to dreams when old fear takes you by the hand?
Where have your plans gone to conquer the world?
You can break my heart, set my soul in flames
In this endless rapture I have grown insane
Still you hold the key to this empty space
And the same old fire will just burn away
It's useless to stand there when all has been said and done
It's easy to lie when your heart has grown cold
What happens to dreams when old fear takes you by the hand?
We missed our last chance to conquer the world
